Morrison & Foerster Offices and Conference Center

2010

Morrison & Foerster

One of the premier law firms in the US, Morrison & Foerster DC wanted a new showcase office. The challenge was to connect 220,000 SF spanning 2 existing floors with 2 new ones visually and functionally. A further challenge was the two-fold aesthetic direction, one modern and clean, and another embracing a vision grounded in the traditional law firm. The materials were carefully scripted: wood to embrace tradition, a stone feature wall dynamically lit to create permanence, and a 3 sided point-supported interior glass curtain wall placed vertically with stairs wrapping around it to interconnect the 2+2 floors. To imbue a sense of common purpose and use, a four level conference center wraps around the stairs on all floors connecting the spaces together. The project won multiple design awards including an IIDA design award.
