Decision making is easy when consensus is singular and all the facts are known. Seldom this is is the case. In the situation of Gallaudet, rapid market change, urban influx, revitalization, technology, real estate and future vision of deaf culture were all in play relative to the campus master planning process. Furthermore, there were several layers, groups and individuals involved in complex decisions for which we had imperfect data. 7 lenses, were created to derive consensus and define solutions. The project was a holistic view of Gallaudet's future development program: academic objectives, obsolescence of existing facilities, growth of the neighboring community, deaf culture, master planning, financial planning and vitality of a historically important campus.
