Council on Foreign Relations

Council on Foreign Relations, the world renown foreign relations think tank, was looking to create its DC flagship. Scope started from site selection to the adaptation of a historic building, including all architecture and interiors. Part of the structure was a 80's building, the other a historic Victorian style specific to DC; the challenge was to bring the two elements together with one unifying approach. As part of our exploration, leadership expressed an underlying desire to bridge its foundational culture with a new membership generation, one which uses technology, space and time differently. The design became a metaphor for CFR's solid legacy while still looking ahead, unifying past, current and future. The project is an 8 story 80,000+ SF space. The work won several design awards.
