BOX KITE
Studio Apartment
2021
Particulier
The box kite is a courtyard elevated to the roof, leaving the existing court to become a lush garden surrounded
by house, roof, apartment, and garage overlooking this central green space.
The project creates an apartment that is a multifunctional space, allowing for living, working, and entertaining, seamlessly coexisting with the main row house and neighborhood.
The rear alley entrance becomes a second front façade
announcing the apartment and the main dwelling beyond.
Materials are comprised of perforated weathering steel, wood, glass, and Portland cement plaster. All the materials are in fact timeless, slowly changing with the seasons.
Each element has a very clear purpose. For example, the perforation allows sun but modulates it and creates a kind of lightness allowing the structure to float like box kite. It also adds a level of privacy in a dense urban environment.
